Join the Step Companies
We are recruiting for dancers to join the Step Companies 2018-19 with auditions taking place on Sunday 23 September.
Step into Dance are reaching out to all aspiring young dancers to join the Step Companies for the new academic year.
Every Company dancer gets to train with some of the most exciting choreographers and dancer artists from across the dance world and work towards a feature length dance performance that will be performed at various venues including a prestigious theatre in July.
We’re looking for dancers with amazing enthusiasm and drive in dance.
You must be ready to commit to a full academic year of dance training.
Some prior dance experience is necessary; however, we are looking for natural ability, commitment and creativity.
As a Step Company dancer you will:
• Develop skills and ability in your chosen dance technique
• Work with the best local, national and international professional artists renowned in their own specific dance style
• Work with an acclaimed choreographer towards a feature length performance
• Perform throughout the year at various high profile events in prestigious theatres
• Be part of a collective, friendly Company of like-minded young people where everyone is supported to grow and develop as dancers
To be eligible, your school must be part of the Step into Dance programme during this academic year (2018-19) or last year (2017-18). You must also be aged between 12-18 years with the exception of young adults with SEND who can be up to 25 years old.
Admission to the Step Companies is by application, please complete a form before Wednesday 19 September in order to secure an audition place. All applicants will take part in an audition with the exception of Step Combine who will have a taster workshop instead.

Auditions will take place at the Royal Academy of Dance in Battersea, London, the schedule for the day is as follows:
Contemporary audition: 10:00-12:00
Street audition: 12:30-14:30
Step Combine taster workshop:12:30-14:30
The Step Companies
Step Contemporary: 10:00–12:30
Focusing on Contemporary dance techniques this company offers all dancers the opportunity to build their skills and confidence in a range of contemporary dance techniques, including floor-based work, release and the principles of Cunningham technique. Throughout the year dancers will explore how these skills can be applied creatively to a make a new choreographic work.
Step Street: 10:00–12:30
An exciting company opening up the rich and diverse art form of Hip Hop Dance, offering weekly training in all the techniques and principles. Dancers will build the necessary strength and skills in order to bring street dance to the stage in exciting new and diverse ways and master the technique in order to compete in Step into Dance’s annual battle, Into Hip Hop Dance.
Step Combine: 12:30–15:00
Step Combine draws on a mixture of dance styles focusing training in street, contemporary and improvisation dance styles. Step Combine invites dancers with and without special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to work collectively together to devise and perform new choreographic work and prepare to take part in a Hip Hop Dance battle.
Step Create and Perform: 13:15–15:15
Step and Create is an exciting new development open to more experienced dancers. Working collaboratively with the Step into Dance resident choreographer to focus on creating an exciting challenging new work.
Company dancers will be invited to take part in this Company through one off workshops in October and November.
Enrichment: 15:30-17:00 (3 workshops per term)
The enrichment programme offers specialist dance opportunities and is open to all Company dancers. A selection of one off workshops will take place each term connecting dancers to professional artists/companies through one-off specialist practical workshops, talks and masterclasses with guest artists and visits to performances.
Step Company fees will for 2018/19 are as follows:
£40 per term
£120 for the full academic year (Autumn, Spring and Summer Terms)
Each Company dancer can be in one of the three Companies: Contemporary, Street or Step Combine.
Create & Perform will be the same price and Company dancers will be selected to take part in this Company.
Enrichment is open to all Company dancers and it is free to take part in.
