About Step Into Dance
'There are not enough superlatives to describe how much we have enjoyed the programme and continuing our relationship with you'. Caroline Afford, Townley Grammar School
Step into Dance is a fully inclusive, community dance programme, led by the Royal Academy of Dance and funded by The Jack Petchey Foundation. The programme offers up to 2 hours a week of dance classes, either within curriculum time or after school. There is a wide range of dance on offer including, African, Ballroom, Bollywood, Breaking, Contemporary, Flamenco, Jazz & Musical Theatre, Jive, Latin and Street.
The programme is currently available to secondary schools in the boroughs of: Barnet, Bexley, Bromley, Camden, Croydon, Enfield, Greenwich, Hackney, Hammersmith & Fulham, Haringey, Islington, Lambeth, Merton, Newham, Southwark, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest and Wandsworth.
Classes run throughout the academic year, giving students the opportunity to really engage with their chosen discipline and create a good relationship with their teacher. The programme currently costs £320 for the whole year.
From March onwards there are Borough performance Events. These events are hosted by one of the schools in each borough and are a wonderful opportunity for students to perform in front of family and friends. Participation in these events ensures that schools are eligible for our end of year showcase, Step LIVE!, which this year took place at Sadler's Wells.
The programme is fully inclusive and we currently work in SEN schools and Pupil Referral Units as well as in mainstream schools.
